FBI Warns of Rising Deepfake Scams: Companies and Individuals Targeted

With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence technologies, the methods used by cybercriminals are also diversifying and becoming more complex. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued a critical warning about a significant increase in scams carried out using AI-powered "deepfake" technologies. These scams pose new and serious security threats to both companies and individuals.

According to the FBI, fraudsters are now using AI to impersonate company executives and public officials in live video calls. Thanks to increasingly affordable and accessible deepfake tools, attackers can copy victims' faces and voices to participate in fake video calls. Through this method, they can pretend to be someone else during video job interviews, get hired, and infiltrate company networks from the inside. This creates a fertile ground for a wide range of malicious activities, from financial fraud to data theft.

Risks of Deepfake Scams:

  • Phishing and Impersonation: Gaining access to sensitive information by impersonating executives or trusted individuals.
  • Financial Losses: Companies or individuals being tricked into transferring money with fraudulent instructions.
  • Data Breaches: Theft of confidential data by infiltrating company networks.
  • Reputational Damage: Harm to corporate and personal reputation.

The FBI advises organizations and individuals to be vigilant against such attacks, use additional verification methods in suspicious situations, and leverage AI-based deepfake detection tools. Increasing cybersecurity awareness will play a key role in combating these next-generation threats.
